...took my bride on another movie date yesterday. While everyone else was in the two theatres reserved for Narnia, we pretty much had the Speed Racer screening all to ourselves.
We so very much enjoyed Speed Racer. It was a great family-friendly movie, even beep-censoring itself when a character was about to say a bad word (even if it was appropriate for that moment in the movie). The movie was otherwise a live-action version of a cartoon from 1966, full of incredible driving (special effects), brilliant colors and scenes, and watching the Mach 5 do its thing just as it did in the cartoon. And, as my bride said after the movie, she was surprised that there actually was a plot that kept the movie connected from start to finish. Anyone who remembers the cartoon will no doubt smile at the number of visual images and homages to the cartoon without taking away from the ongoing story. DVD library when it goes on sale later this year (or so), and we both hope there is a sequel... it was just simply FUN! It'll never win an Oscar for Best Movie, or be considered a statement-making movie. It was a movie which was just two hours of pure escapism, which for us is much-needed these days...
Tonight my bride is making a recipe from Sandra Lee (Semi Homemade on Food Network), and the house is already smelling wonderful and I'm getting ravenous. Speaking of the house, the vast majority of this weekend has been spent with the house open and the air conditioner OFF. These pleasant below-average spring temperatures have been an extra gift to aid in the relaxation before returning to another stressful week at the jobs...
